Boundaries: Fourth Avenue to Hoyt Street/Smith Street; Prospect Avenue/the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to Butler/Baltic Street.

 

Where Would You Live? Labeled by some industry experts as the “Williamsburg of ten years ago” Gowanus still has a limited amount of residential property and much of Gowanus is zoned for light manufacturing. Current residential properties consist of single-,two-,and three-family brick and vinyl siding residences. Proposed rezoning of the area has attracted interest of developers who are looking to build large residential buildings.


Neighborhood Features: outdoor strolls and bike rides over the Gowanus canal via the Carroll Street Bridge; dining at Littleneck; nightlife and bars such as Lowlands, Draft Barn and Halyards; events like trivia at Fourth Avenue Pub or Pacific Standard, Proteus Gowanus, The Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club or Cut Brooklyn, and with groups such as the Fixers Collective.
