Neighborhood Guide

Midtown West

Boundaries: 29th St. to 59th St.; Sixth Ave. to Hudson River.

Where Would You Live? Living spaces include high-rise condos and smaller, prewar buildings, as well as huge loft spaces.  Also known as Clinton or Hell’s Kitchen, this district is both classic Old New York and also edgy and evolving.  There are busy commercial avenues and quiet tree-lined blocks dotted with late Nineteenth Century apartment buildings next to some of the most modern and newly constructed residences.   Ongoing new development west of Ninth Avenue and along the Hudson River make this area among the most up and coming.

Neighborhood Features: Recreational areas such as Central Park; Cultural centers Lincoln Center, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Carnegie Hall, The Broadway Theater District; award winning restaurants such as Jean Georges, Restaurant Daniel and Le Bernardin; busy bars, cafés, dining and nightclubs along Ninth Avenue; specialty shopping at the Time Warner Center; the Jacob Javitz Convention Center; and conveniences such as banks, pharmacies, delis, dry cleaners, and take-out.
